TEXARKANA, Texas — A tar mop is cited as the cause of roof fire Wednesday at Harbor Freight in Texarkana, Texas.
Interim Chief Chris Black of Texarkana Texas Fire Department said the blaze started during repair work on the building’s roof.
“They were putting tar on the roof, and a tar mop caught on fire,” Black said.
The fire was brought under control quickly and damage was contained to the roof, Black said.
Roofing tar can get close to 500 degrees.
Harbor Freight staff were back at work shortly after the flames were extinguished. The store manager on duty declined comment, referring all questions to Oaklawn Village property manager Wanda Queen.
