Spring is on the way and that means severe weather – think thunderstorms with hail – is likely on the way.
Rob Stark, an owner of Stark Roofing in Cedar Hill, said any time there’s been hail, homeowners should call a roofing company. He said it’s a good idea to get your roof inspected every year because homes in the Midwest can take a beating from severe weather.
Most homeowners won’t be able to detect hail damage and most damage won’t be immediate, he said. Hail knocks granules off the shingles. As more rain or ice hits, it wears at the shingles, eventually causing a leak.
“Anytime you know you’ve had hail, call us. We do free inspections,” Stark said.
Stark said they can tell homeowners if they need an emergency repair, if they need to contact their insurance agent or if the roof is in good shape. He said they can tell the life expectancy of a roof.
Newer roofs, he said, can withstand such storms, but large hail over several minutes might do actual damage. That’s not the case for older roofs.
While the damage might not appear overnight, Stark said, delaying repairs could lead to mold and interior damage.
He said Stark Roofing offers a wide variety of residential and commercial services.
“We do asphalt shingles, metal roofing and commercial flat roofs. We do vinyl siding; we do seamless aluminum guttering.”
Stark said the business was started in 2000. His dad, Rick Stark, and brother, Ryan Stark, are also owners. Combined, they have more than 50 years of experience in the roofing industry.
