Severe weather has impacted much of Texas in recent years. Now, Yelp wants to help Texans make repairs to their homes and businesses that were damaged during the weather incidents through a “Make it Happen Day” $100,000 fund.
The company launched its second annual “Make It Happen Day” which will donate $100,000 to residents and small businesses to cover the cost of repairs, according to a Yelp blog post.
Building on the impact of last year’s event which was launched to help address damage caused by Winter Storm Uri, Yelp will select 50 Texans to receive $1,000 toward their personal home projects using the help of one of many home service professionals listed on the company’s website.
The company will also give $10,000 to five local businesses across the state to help them make repairs and updates to their facilities: Texas French Bread and Ambur Fire in Greater Austin, The Grill at Leon Springs in San Antonio, Humble: Simply Good Pies in Dallas, and Mico’s Hot Chicken in Houston.
To help spread the word, Yelp partnered with Houston native, design expert and Emmy-nominated TV host Bobby Berk who recently filmed the sixth season of “Queer Eye” in Austin.
“Every small business has a history, and many of those have had it rough over the past few years between COVID, horrible storms and even fires,” Berk said in Yelp’s news release. “I’m honored to be a part of [this] initiative, helping these companies get back on their feet.”
On Aug. 26, Texans who have a free Yelp user account can use the company’s Request a Quote feature to find a home service provider in their area and submit a quote for the cost of their home project on the campaign’s website. Winners will receive an email notification to the email address associated with their Yelp account and giveaway entry.
Home service providers and assistance can include roofing, plumbing, painting, HVAC, flooring, contractors, electricians, handymen, landscapers, tree services and more.
