A RECENT storm in Johor Baru caused significant damage to SJK (T) Gelang Patah and the school will be receiving immediate state assistance, Makkal Osai reported.
Part of the school’s roof was blown off at about 1.30pm on Sunday but the pupils were not hurt as they had already left.
Headmistress Ghohila Nagalingam led an immediate clean-up with teachers and parents to remove the broken roof tiles scattered throughout the compound.
The school needs about RM50,000 to repair the roof.
State tourism, environment, heritage and culture committee chairman K. Raven Kumar, along with state Education Department assistant director Ravichandran, who visited the school, promised to obtain help for the repairs.
Meanwhile, Iskandar Puteri MP Liew Chin Tong’s special officers who visited the school promised RM10,000 for the repairs.
The school, which has 225 pupils, is already struggling with a lack of classrooms.
