PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A Port Charlotte man is sleeping in safer conditions after getting help from across Southwest Florida.
82-year-old George Goins has lived in his home for seven years, but has been living without a roof and power since Hurricane Ian tore through.
Amber Harris told ABC7 she met George just a few weeks ago and wanted to help after learning his story.
Harris made a Tik Tok asking for help on George’s behalf. She said help has been pouring in ever since.
“It’s been amazing just to see the community coming together with everything,” said Harris.
Milford Motors RV has donated a trailer for George to stay in until his home is fixed.
SRQ Roofing stepped in to repair the roof while also securing a permit within a day.
Florida Restoration is handling mold mediation work.
HHI Interiors and Walt Tech will work to restore and paint the home’s interior.
“I believe this turned my whole life around. I mean, really,” said George.
Harris said she’s working to raise $10,000 to pay off financed repairs and loans taken out that kept George above water.
