Greenville County resident, Janie Acker, is thrilled to be getting a much need roof repair to her home. “I think I’m in shock. I just can’t hardly believe all these good things are happening to me. Really been blessed,” said Janie Acker. Acher is a mother, grandmother, and widow to a U.S. Navy veteran. And says her late husband, Carl Acker, would also be thrilled. “He really wanted to get things done. He would be having a fit right now, I guess, because I’ve got so many things that need to be done,” said Acker. The roof is being repaired by Quantum Roofing as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project. It’s through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County. “Owens Corning has this project where they partner with local roofing companies and then with Habitats throughout the country to make sure that veterans and their families are taken care of and that those that can’t afford a roof are given one,” said Mark Steenback, Habitat for Humanity chief resource officer. Organizers count it a privilege to be able to give to deserving people. “It’s really exciting to be able to partner with two great organizations to make sure that someone that is really deserving in our community gets the opportunity to have a new roof,” said Steenback.Acker says to those who may also be looking for help with affordable housing that the resources are available. “I would tell them to try to get in touch with the right people and get things done because it’s out there,” said Acker.
