BEVERLY — Fort Frye Board of Education voted to accept a contractor bid for the Beverly-Center walk-in cooler project and approved another contractor to replace the roof at the district bus garage at Tuesday’s meeting.
The board approved United Construction Company Inc. of Parkersburg to carry out the Beverly-Center walk-in cooler project. The contract is worth $168,350.
“It’s a long time coming,” Superintendent Stephanie Starcher said. “In understanding why we were doing this project, Beverly-Center used to be a satellite kitchen. The food was cooked at the high school, driven over and brought to Beverly-Center. We designed our operations several years ago, now it has its own kitchen. It brings everything up to code.”
Another item on the agenda was approving a contract for Energy Optimizers to replace the roof on the district bus garage and wrap the building in metal. The contract is worth $97,110.
“The roof on the bus garage needed to be replaced for quite some time now,” Starcher said. “We were hoping to get a grant when they had capital improvement grants but we didn’t qualify. We wanted to put a new roof on it and wrap the building in metal because it has a lot of cracks and spaces and air issues for insulation. When we applied for the grant in February 2022, we’d gotten a good price. I happened to talk to the guy from before, and he said the price from 18 months ago would be honored.”
The board voted to go into executive session at the end of the meeting to discuss the employment of a public employee or official. Starcher said no decisions would be made.
Board member Kari Schilling wasn’t present at the meeting.
