Jefferson County Sheriff

No time: Dispatchers alerted deputies to an elderly woman in the vicinity of Bantam Ridge Road “talking erratically about a dispute with her brother,” Tuesday. Deputies spoke with the woman, who assured them she didn’t need an ambulance nor did she want to harm herself. She said she’s been diagnosed with an aneurysm and heart condition “and was told by her doctor that she didn’t have much time,” so she wanted deputies to “contact her family and make them come visit her, since they haven’t spoken to her in years.” She said she’s just lonely and wants her family to visit.

Breaking point: A Dillonvale woman said she and her son had been arguing all day and wanted him removed from her house, Tuesday. She said he’d broken the heater vent in her car earlier in the day and “at one point acted like he wanted to hit her,” but didn’t. She said he’s an addict and takes things from their residence and his father “just lets him take whatever he wants.” She said she doesn’t want him in the house any longer, so deputies advised her what she’d have to do to get a protection order.

Unhappy homecoming: A Bloomingdale man who spent seven months behind bars said someone broke into a garage he rents while he was in jail and removed auto parts he stored there but left his tools behind, Oct. 7. He told deputies carburetors from his 2003 Yamaha R6, a catalytic converter from a 1996 Ford F250, a starter from a 1993 Dodge pickup, paperwork and some other items were taken and, though they denied it, thinks the thieves were two members of his own family. He said one of them had been “pestering him” for the carburetors before he went to jail and a vehicle that looks suspiciously like the family member’s vehicle was also spotted on the property.

Bad business: A Richmond couple said they’ve paid a contractor from Carnegie an $8,000 advance for a roof repair but he hasn’t done the work and he’s stopped returning their calls, Oct. 6. They said they signed the contract in June and it was to be done a month later, but he told them he was having trouble finding workers so they gave him extra time. They said they last spoke with him in August and since then, he hasn’t answered their calls or texts. Letters their attorney sent the contractor were returned as “undeliverable.”

Steubenville Police

Unattended: Someone reported seeing a small child walking alone with no shoes in the vicinity of the 400 block of South Fifth and Slack streets, Tuesday. Police located the child, who “could only point in the direction of where he lived.” The caller reported seeing the child walk across Fourth Street to the library, so an officer picked the child up and walked him over to the library where they heard the child’s mother screaming for him. She said she was cooking and her husband was working on the car when she realized the child was missing.

In custody: A Ridge Avenue resident was taken into custody after a domestic disturbance, Saturday. George Manson, 50, 1434 Ridge Ave., was booked into the county jail on a domestic violence charge. Police said Manson initially told them a family member attacked him, and police noted the railing on his front steps was broken and his nose was bleeding. Family members pointed out he was “very intoxicated” and has a tendency to act out when drinking and report a friend of his had helped him up the steps but after making it inside he fell on the floor. They said he “became upset and was throwing items,” though he also broke some things when he fell. While trying to stop him from causing further damage, they said he struck an individual in the face and shoved that person into the corner. Police noted swelling around the eye and damage to the wall “which came as a result of … being thrown into the corner.”

In custody: Police took a Market Street resident into custody after he allegedly told a female he would “smash her brains all over the apartment,” Tuesday. Albert L. McFall, 33, 801 Market St., Apt. B, was booked into the county jail on a domestic violence charge. Police said the victim told them he “pulled on her hair” while they were arguing about money and said she wasn’t afraid of his verbal threats but … was tired of (him) pulling her hair.” He was still in the residence so they knocked before entering but he didn’t answer, and when they located him said he told them “he didn’t hear anyone knocking at the door and then stated he thought it was the cat making noises.” He admitted arguing with her but denied pulling the woman’s hair or threatening her. Police told him other people had said they heard him screaming at her and he then told them he has a condition that “causes him to get angry real fast and he doesn’t remember saying anything.”

Eat n’run: The manager of a Fort Steuben Mall eatery chased a customer who fled without paying his $38 food and beverage bill, Tuesday. The manager said he’d “sat at the bar and ordered food as well as beer” and after eating, “got up and sprinted out of the side door into the parking lot” without paying, but the manager caught up to him and walked him back to wait for police. The customer said he “did not believe what he did was illegal” and called his mother who came there and paid his bill. Police told him what he did is considered theft and he could be arrested, but the manager declined to file charges since the bill was paid though he did ban the man from the restaurant.

Opportunistic: A man said his handgun was stolen from a Plum Street residence, Tuesday. He told police he loaded the gun but a round was in the chamber backwards, so he took it to a Plum Street location to see if a man there could fix it. When he refused, he said he put the gun on the man’s table and went to the store but when he returned it was gone. The man he’d asked to fix it declined to help “due to being a felon,” and said after the gun’s owner left it on the table he took a couple people to the store. While they were gone he said someone had knocked at the door and he let them in, then went back to playing video games. He said he didn’t know the individual he let into the home.

Bothered: A city resident told police she has a protection order against a woman who “is continually attempting to make contact with her,” Tuesday. She said the woman has started blocking vehicles of people visiting her.

Damages: A motorist traveling in the 4100 block of Sunset Boulevard said a man dressed in grey picked up a rock and threw it at her car, Monday. She told them she thought the it was a rock and said she heard a loud crack, and when she pulled over realized her driver’s door was damaged.

Don’t do it: An Irondale man reported his bank account compromised, Monday. He said someone claiming to be from Huntington Bank texted him and called to inform his account had been flagged for fraud and sent him an e-mail with a confirmation number, so he gave them his account number over the phone and the line went dead. When he checked his account he discovered two withdrawals had been made, one for $300 and the other for $700.

Vandalized: A man parked in the 100 block of North Fifth Street said someone broke his passenger window out and stole $60 in cash, a ring and a cup of change, Tuesday.

Booked: William McGee, 38, 960 Sherman Ave., Steubenville, domestic violence; Frank G. Wilson, 54, 637 N. 5th St., Steubenville, bench warrant, Monday;
