A Des Plaines man has been charged with bilking a Western Springs resident of money for home repairs that were never made.
Tony Yobnovich, 60, of the 1700 block of Rand Road, Des Plaines, was charged Nov. 22 with Home Repair Fraud, a Class 4 Felony.
In April of this year Yobnovich claimed to be a repairman for A1 Roofing and Construction, agreed to perform home repairs for a resident in the 3900 block of Howard Avenue in Western Springs, according to a news release. He was given a $5,000 check and, in the agreed-on contract, promised to start the work within a week.
But he never started the work and when the victim tried to contact him through repeated telephone calls, they were never returned, according to police.
Yobnovich was questioned by Western Springs Police and ultimately arrested at his residence without incident. He was charged and a court date with the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeview is pending.
Penalties for Class 4 Felonies in Illinois, according to the website of the Illinois General Assembly, ilga.gov, can be from one to three years imprisonment, and include a fine of up to $25,000.
